This project arises from Jicaro Island Ecolodge’s motivation to improve both social and environmental surroundings in the local community.
Historically, rural families in Nicaragua in their homes use firewood for food preparation. This is obtained by cutting trees. This has been causing deterioration in transforming the forest cover and the ecological integrity of these ecosystems are affected by deforestation.
The purpose of the project is:
• Protect the environment by avoiding cutting trees for firewood for food preparation (cooking).
• Generate and increase options for obtaining financial resources (through the sale, purchase and management of pigs)
• Disseminate alternatives and experiences to guests and families for the creation and ownership of an ecological alternative.
