Traditions in Granada

Granada, a colonial city founded by the Spanish in 1524, celebrates in honor of the Virgin of the Assumption every August 15.  However, the celebration starts a few days before and ends after the main date. This celebration brings together a large number of people from different parts of Nicaragua. The carnival parade is one of the main attractions of these festivals where artists express themselves through floats adorned with different details and colors. There are also cultural events such as dances that are performed on the main streets.


To top off the celebration of these festivals, an equestrian parade is brings riders in from different cities.  Examples of horses of many breeds are exhibited in the main streets of the city. There is also live music in the main streets and central square. There are a series of bars and restaurants where you can enjoy drinks and dishes. This is a great celebration of the Granadinos full of culture and tradition!
